Adoption ProcedureBefore we introduce you to some of our dogs, we'd like to give you a clear understanding of our adoption process. Once an application is submitted, it is reviewed, references are checked and a home visit is scheduled. Once the process is complete and an applicant is accepted, he or she is matched with a dog that best suits everyone's needs. An adoption contract is signed and CSK9 requires a minimum adoption fee of $250.00. For any dog six (6) years of age or older, the fee is $200.00. The expenses for the care may include, but are not limited to, vet bills, food, shelter and providing for the many rescue dogs who come into our care. If you are interested in any of these dogs, please fill out an application from our "Forms" page.Saving one dog will not change the world except for that one dog whose world will change forever. We know you are excited, but please try to be patient. If you are a good match for a dog, we will be in touch. It might be soon, or it might be a few weeks. We respond more quickly to inquiries that include a completed application. We appreciate your cooperation!! Thanks!

Fonzi Is it too late to get this boy in a 2008 German Shepherd calendar?? Okay...so we'll try for the 2009 calendar! Handsome and charming Fonzi is absolutely gorgeous, and a very friendly boy. He gets along fine with other dogs and is housebroken. He enjoys nylabones and long walks, and lots of pets and hugs! He's clearly had training, and at a more mature age (we're guessing 8-9), he's settled and well behaved--the golden age where shepherds are majestic and perfect! He takes treats like a gentleman, rides great in the car, and has a cute way of "talking" with woo-woos. Fonzi was rescued with literally 4 hours left in his life. Can you fill his retirement with what every dog deserves-- with love, devotion, kindness, and a condo in Boca? Okay, well at least love, devotion and kindness! Update: Fonzi had to leave us earlier than we would have liked but he passed quiety and peacefully knowing he was loved and part of a family. God bless you Fonzi and I look forward to meeting you again! The first thing you notice when you look at Moose is that his head doesn't seem to fit with the rest of his body. That's because his body is wafer-thin from roaming the streets, sick and hungry. This wonderful 5 year old rottie came to us feeling sick, tired and scared, with his time running out. Just look at those sweet eyes, what a story this soul has to tell! He seems to like everyone he's met so far, as a kindly woman in the vet's waiting room can attest after she was on the receiving end of lots of slobbery kisses! He is getting all the care and TLC he needs, and he is being treated for heartworm for the next 60 days. Moose will be available for adoption in mid-May. Hi. My name is Bullet and I am a 2 year old long haired German Shepherd. I'm a big boy - about 86 lbs now but I could gain another 5 -10 pounds. My foster mom says that while I'm drop dead gorgeous, my easy going temperament is my best feature. I'm a little shy, at first, but I warm up quickly and enjoy giving and receiving affection from new friends. I love human attention but I'm also happy to settle near my foster parents and lie quietly. I haven't figured out what toys and balls are all about. Right now, I'm content to watch my foster GSD sister play - maybe I'll try soon. I am a very alert guy and would love to chase the squirrels and birds, in the backyard. I should probably go to a home with kids over 8. I prefer to be an only dog but I do like some big female dogs and puppies, but my forever family should be one without small dogs or cats. My foster mom says that my forever home needs to continue the obedience training as I have a lot to learn. I'm catching on quickly, though. It's not my fault no one ever gave me the training and attention I deserve! For more information, contact Bullet's foster mom at io5ta@yahoo.com. Buddy is a VERY good boy - happy and affectionate! He wiggles with glee when it is time to walk. He's only 1.5 years old - still a puppy, really. He weighs in at 102 athletic pounds. He's probably at his adult size and weight now. He's a handsome black and tan, and he's a great mix of two loyal breeds - shepherd and rottweiler. Buddy shared his previous home with 1 dog and 3 cats! And - 7 and 11 year old children. He gets along with everyone, and has no bad habits, only good ones. He already knows his basics like sit, come, and stay, and his favorite game is fetch. He's housetrained and crate trained, and has already been neutered. Buddy is young and needs lots of exercise. He also needs lots of toys and chewables to keep him occupied. He is very loving and loyal and enjoys pleasing his people. If you are looking for a very loyal companion and "buddy" to hang out with, please come meet him. He is currently with Chesapeake Shepherd and K9 Rescue and you can reach his foster mom at glendad2@gmail.com.
Sheba Sheba is all about L-O-V-E. Poor girl has had an awful life up until now, but she was rescued by some wonderful good Samaritans and is recovering in the rescue now. This beauty was kept out in a small, feces-filled pen, and her only food was spoiled garbage tossed into her pen once a week by her "owners" when they cleaned out the refrigerator. They tossed the food in to her still in its plastic containers, and she was forced to chew open the plastic to get to the food inside. Well, she's getting hot cooked meals and room service now, and has decided that life inside is SO good, it's hard to get her to go out! She is learning all the joys and rules of life inside a home, and this girl is smart as a whip. She is also an incredibly agile athlete, and anyone looking for an agility dog would be lucky to have her. She adores attention and is ever so grateful for any little bit of attention. She is a bossy little girl with other dogs, and she does well with submissive dogs or very alpha dogs who can put her in her place. Sheba has tested positive for heartworms, so she will be undergoing treatment for the next 60 days and will be available around mid-May. While our girl is busy healing, she will be taking applications, so ask about her today! Don't I look like a princess? That's 'cause I am, I'm Princess Belle! I'm an 18 month old beautiful labby girl, and I'm dainty and petite like any good princess. I was kept away in a tower (except when I was allowed to have puppies) and never really experienced the world until I was magically transported to the kingdom of my foster home. Talk about royalty! I am allowed to run and play with my foster brother, sleep on the bed, climb in laps, get kisses on the nose from little ones, and overall be lavished with attention from my subjects (er, foster family). I am housetrained, good on a leash, good with other dogs and children of all ages. I am still easily frightened because of my time imprisoned in the tower, but I am getting more and more comfortable with the outside world. If you can lavish me with the attention I deserve and shower me with True Love's kisses, I will be eternally grateful and loyal!

"A harbor, even if it is a little harbor, is a good thing, since adventures come into it as well as go out, and the life in it grows strong, because it takes something from the world and has something to give in return." -Sarah Orne Jewett, from "River Driftwood" (1881) |
